Hand made from European Oak, using natural and fumed oak veneer to display, through contrast, the very particular beauty of this wood. The making process has many steps: gluing up, cutting, gluing up again and re-cutting.
High levels of precision are required to ensure that every face, with mitred corners, lines up to give the illusion that the sleeve is hewn from a solid block. Further precision is required to ensure a snug fit for the enclosed matchbox.
The striker and finger hole are carved out and then hand finished using a chisel. The sleeve is hand-finished with a hard wax oil to further enhance its beauty.
